Verstappen takes pole for British GP
Dutchman beats Norris to pole in wet-dry qualifying
Red Bull driver claims fifth pole of the season
Max Verstappen made it five pole positions from 11 races in 2023 as he beat Lando Norris to top spot in qualifying for the British Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver produced a stunning lap in the closing stages of Q3 to pip Norris by just 0.075 seconds, with Carlos Sainz completing the top three ahead of Sergio Perez.
It was a thrilling qualifying session, with the track conditions constantly changing due to rain showers. The drivers had to switch between wet and dry tyres several times, making it difficult to find a rhythm.
Verstappen was one of the few drivers to get his lap perfectly right, and he will now be the favourite to win Sunday's race.
Conclusion
Verstappen's pole position is a major boost for Red Bull, who are looking to close the gap to Ferrari in the constructors' championship. The Dutchman has been in impressive form all season, and he will be hoping to continue that form at Silverstone.
Norris' second place is also a positive result for McLaren, who have struggled for pace in recent races. The young Briton will be hoping to challenge for a podium finish on Sunday.
