Cori Bush loses Missouri primary to Wesley Bell in tight race

Bell, a local prosecutor, had the backing of a pro-Israel group

Cori Bush lost the Democratic primary in Missouri's 1st Congressional District on Tuesday to Wesley Bell, a local prosecutor who had the backing of a pro-Israel group.

Bush, a progressive Democrat who was first elected to Congress in 2020, had been seen as a rising star in the party. But she faced a strong challenge from Bell, who was endorsed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and had the backing of a pro-Israel group called the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

The race was close throughout the night, with Bell ultimately prevailing by a margin of just over 3,000 votes. Bush conceded defeat in a speech to her supporters, saying that she was "disappointed" by the outcome but that she would continue to fight for her values.

Bell will now face Republican nominee Steve Roberts in the general election in November. Roberts is a former state representative who has the backing of former President Donald Trump.
