Passengers aboard the Carnival Sunshine cruise ship have shared harrowing accounts of their terrifying night as the vessel was battered by hurricane-force winds. The ship was returning to Charleston, South Carolina, after a four-day voyage when it encountered severe weather.
Social media platforms were flooded with videos and updates from passengers who described water pouring through flooded cabins and hallways. The ship's crew reportedly directed passengers to gather in designated safe areas as the storm intensified.
One passenger, posting under the name "CruiseKaren," said the experience was "like being in a washing machine." She shared footage of water cascading down the walls of her cabin, drenching the furniture and belongings.
Another passenger, "SeabreezeSusie," described the hallways as "rivers" and said the ship was "shaking violently." She posted a video of passengers struggling to walk through knee-deep water that was swirling and swirling around their feet.
The Carnival Sunshine reportedly encountered coastal storms and high winds, which caused the extensive flooding and damage. Passengers are now safely back on land, but the harrowing experience will likely stay with them for a long time.
